INVITATION TO FACULTY OF LAW GOLDEN JUBILEE ACTIVITIES AND CLIMAX CEREMONY

Esteemed Alumni, Former and Current Staff, Stakeholders and Friends of the Faculty of Law, University of Dar es Salaam

In the week of 17th to 22nd October 2011, the Faculty of Law, University of Dar es Salaam will be organising events to mark 50 years of its establishment. The highlights of the activities are:

  • 17th and 18th October 2011: The Inauguration ceremony and Symposium on ‘Constitutionalism and Constitution Making in Tanzania which will be addressed by experts from within and outside the country.
  • 18th October 2011: Faculty of Law Open Day: Book Launch, Exhibitions and Moot Court.
  • 19th and 21st October 2011: A Colloquium on 50 Years of Pioneering Scholarship and Legal Education in East Africa which will be addressed by, among others first members of the staff of the Faculty of Law.
  • 20th October 2011: Graduation Ceremony for Postgraduate and Honorary degreed (University Programme)
  • 22nd October 2011: Climax of celebrations including A Procession of Alumni, addressed, entertainment, awards and recognition ceremony and Alumni reunion. Official Attire for Lawyers is highly encouraged.

On behalf of the Faculty of Law, I cordially invite all alumni, former and present staff both academic and administrative, members of the legal profession, stakeholders and friends to attend all or some of the above events. In particular, I would like to urge the Alumni WITHIN AND OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY to attend the climax celebration events.

Dr. Jane Goodall will on July 21, 2010 make a public lecture on Environment & Humanitarian issues at State University Zanzibar(SUZA), Vuga Campus- the main lecture room at 11.00am. Thus, all public and reporters are welcome to participate and share interested information.


Dame Valerie Jane Morris Goodall, DBE (born 3 April 1934), is a British
primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace. She is well-known for and family interactions in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania, and for founding the Jane Goodall Institute.


She obtained a Ph.D degree in Ethology in 1965 from Cambridge University. She is one of only nine people to receive a Ph.D without first obtaining a BA or B.Sc. Her Thesis Advisor was Robert Hinde.Goodall was set on the path of chimpanzee study by Louis Leakey.

She became the first of “Leakey’s Angels” when she began her first field study of chimpanzee culture in the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania. Goodall had always been passionate about animals and Africa, which brought her to the farm of a friend in the Kenya highlands in 1957.
